Gender equality

Gender equality

Despite Sweden’s top ranking on gender equality, women still face wage discrimination. Due to old-fashioned structures and norms, women and men are not being judged as individuals. Men are also confined to male roles, preventing them to shoulder their responsibility as fathers. Liberal feminism is about recognising such structures that put obstacles in the way of both women and men, and replacing them by policies focusing on the individual.

Stimulating private enterprise through the breaking of public monopolies in sectors dominated by women is a key factor behind more equal wages and a raise in status of female-dominated jobs. Encouraging men to use their right to longer parental leave is an equally important way to improve the situation for women on the labour market. We also need more women on leading positions in companies, public authorities and politics.
