Safety against crime

A rising crime-rate, too few crimes being investigated, crowded prisons and less police on the beat. This is the result after ten years of Social Democrat rule. Folkpartiet believes that a combination of effective crime-busting and combating social problems such as segregation and drug use is the best long-term strategy to reduce crime.

Sweden needs more police officers, visible among citizens and focusing on solving crimes. Combating petty crime, as well as drug use and drug trafficking, violence against women and trafficking in women and children, must become top priorities for the police and the judicial authorities. Police must also be given access to more effective methods for the fight against crime.

The European capacity to tackle cross-border and organised crime should be improved by converting Europol into a true European police force – a European FBI. Treatment of offenders must be reformed for successful rehabilitation. Prisons should be staffed by trained wardens and offer meaningful activities.
