Schooling for knowledge

Swedish schools are no longer top of the line. Decades of wishy-washy school policies have resulted in one third of the high school students not reaching the national goals and many pupils leaving secondary school without reading and writing skills. Many students are subject to systematic harassment by their peers, without any reaction from school personnel.

A high level of education is necessary for our welfare and competitiveness, but also as a key to a better life for young people of all backgrounds. The current school system, where students are allowed to fall behind, is unfair to those who are in most need of education. Swedish schools need a radical reform focusing on knowledge, orderliness and safety for students.

Folkpartiet will launch a guarantee ensuring that every pupil learns to read, write and count already in primary school. Written marks should be given to pupils also in lower grades. There must be an end to bullying, fighting and violence in schools - this is why we need to give more authority to teachers and introduce written marks assessing pupils’ behaviour.
